Bryce Elder threw seven shutout innings against the Yankees, turning in his best start of the second half. Elder's season began spectacularly and he was an All-Star but he had been struggling mightily in the second half of the season. Wander Franco blasted a walk-off HR to give the Rays victory on Friday night. The Rays are very much still in the hunt for the AL East title. Jon Singleton was the Astros' #1 prospect in 2014. He even signed a 5-year, $10 million deal before his MLB debut. After failing to stick in MLB and even being out of baseball briefly, Singleton has found his way back to the Astros lineup and hit 2 HRs to lead the way on Friday. Rangers star 3B Josh Jung suffered a fractured thumb during Sunday's game while making the play on a 109 mph line drive off his glove. Jung could be back before the playoffs, depending on the severity of his fracture. Marlins star rookie RHP Eury Pérez spent the last month at Double-A in an attempt to lighten his workload. Pérez has been recalled and will start on Monday night as the Marlins continue to jockey for a Wild Card spot. Blue Jays rookie Davis Schneider has hit the ground running in his first 3 MLB games. Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson threw punches in a bench-clearing altercation in Cleveland. What led up to this fight? Trea Turner has struggled all season long for the Phillies. The fans showered him with support (standing ovation) before each at-bat on Friday. On Saturday, he responded with a go-ahead 3-run homer and a curtain call. The Astros have strong momentum heading into the last two months of the season.
